Sticky bra vs adhesive bra

People use the two names for the same shelf of products, and shops do nothing to clear it up. The distinction that actually changes what you buy is not the name — it is whether the piece is doing the holding, or helping something else hold.

They are the same category, not the same product

Adhesive only describes how it stays on: medical-grade silicone that grips skin rather than a band that grips your ribs. Every piece on this site is adhesive. Within that category there are two jobs, and a piece is built for one of them.

A sticky bra is a garment. It covers the breast, carries its weight and works with nothing underneath it. A bra insert is not a garment. It is a shaped pad that goes inside a cup, a bikini top or a bodysuit and changes the shape of what is already there.

What a sticky bra actually does

It replaces the bra. The cup holds the breast, and the adhesive across the whole inner face is what keeps it up — there is no band and nothing over the shoulder. That is why it works under a backless dress, a halter, an open-sided top, anything where a strap would show.

A good one has a wing wide enough to spread the load. On a larger bust that surface area is the difference between a piece that holds all evening and one that slides after an hour.

What an insert actually does

An insert has no back and no wing. It sits under the breast, lifts it upward and inward, and lets the fabric of your outfit do the covering. It is the right answer when the garment already has cups and the problem is shape: a bikini triangle that sits flat, a slip dress that gapes at the neckline, a bodysuit that needs a centre line.

How to tell which one your outfit needs

• No cups, no support built in — a strapless dress with a plain lining, an open back, a halter. You need a sticky bra.
• Cups that exist but gape or sit flat — bikini tops, bodysuits, corset tops, a dress with a shelf bra. You need an insert.
• A neckline so low or narrow that neither fits — a plunge to the navel, a one-shoulder cut-out. You need body tape, cut to the shape.

How long each lasts

Both are reusable, and both last on the same terms: up to 50 wears when washed after every wear and stored on the film they came on. What ends a piece early is never the number of wears — it is body lotion, fake tan still developing, or being left face down on a bathroom shelf where it collects fabric fluff.

Sizing them is not the same thing

A sticky bra is sized like a bra, by cup. An insert is sized by cup volume, which is why a 32D and a 36B take the same insert — they hold the same amount, even though the letter on the label differs. Our size guide does that translation for you.

The one rule that applies to both: take your true size. Going up does not add lift, it adds an edge that shows through fabric.
