What to wear under a backless dress

An open back removes the two things a normal bra relies on: the band around the ribs and the straps over the shoulders. Whatever goes underneath has to hold using skin alone, which narrows the honest options to three.

Option one: a strapless, backless sticky bra

This is the default when the dress has no structure of its own — a plain lining, a low back, nothing to hook into. The cup holds the breast and the adhesive holds the cup, so there is nothing to show at the shoulder or the spine.

Option two: inserts, if the dress has cups

Plenty of backless dresses already have a shelf bra or moulded cups sewn in. People ignore them and buy a full sticky bra anyway, which is more adhesive than the job needs.

If cups exist, put The Sculpt inside them. The dress does the covering, the insert does the shaping, and you are asking the adhesive to hold a pad rather than the whole breast — which is far more reliable over a long evening.

Option three: tape, for the necklines nothing else fits

A plunge that runs below the sternum, a one-shoulder cut-out, an asymmetric drape — there is no moulded piece on the market shaped like that. Body tape is cut to the line you actually have, which is the whole point of it.

Preparing the skin

Every option above fails the same way. Adhesive silicone grips skin, not the film on top of it — so no moisturiser, no body oil, no fake tan that is still developing, and no talc. Shower, then give the skin ten minutes to be genuinely dry rather than towel-dry.

If you are wearing a scent, spray it on your wrists and neck after everything is on, not before and not on your chest.

Placement, in one sentence

Bottom edge first, against the underside, then press upward and inward and hold for ten seconds a side. Started at the bottom you get lift; pressed on from the top you get coverage and a gap underneath that peels open within the hour.
